Are You Ready?
|
We have less than a month until the start of the Fall 2008 Blogging for Progress contest! Are you ready?
The Fall 2008 Blogging for Progress scholarship will run from midnight on September 15, 2008 (PDT), and will run through noon on December 15, 2008 (PST). So, you have a solid three months to blog your heart out.
In the next few weeks, our staff will be working hard to update scholarship listings... and everyone who participated in past contests should take note of this change. Due to lack of funding and other circumstances, we have changed the funds distribution for this contest. Instead of offering a $1000 scholarship, and 2 $500 scholarships, we will instead give the first place person a check for $1500. Up to four individuals will be named honorable mentions and will earn a gift certificate in the amount of $25 in order to offset the cost of books.
The second big change we are pleased to announce is that we are opening the contest up to international residents. So, if you're not a resident of the United States, you can now participate in the scholarship contest. Which means that there might just be a little bit more competition in this contest.
For more information, be sure to read the updated Official Rules
Of course, as many of our veterans will tell you, it's not really about the scholarship in the end. It's a plus if you do get it, but most people end up staying for the atmosphere of the site, rather than for the scholarship.
Those are the biggest changes to this next contest, but we want to take this time to remind you of some of the standing rules. For instance, you cannot have more than one account in a household without the permission of the staff. You can e-mail us at info[at]progressiveu.org to request permission. Also, we have a zero-tolerance policy regarding spam. Your account will be deleted if we see you are using it for spam purposes. And, perhaps the MOST important rule on this site... personal attacks are NOT permitted. Multiple violations of that rule will get you banned from the site. If you have to resort to personal attacks, you should be backing off anyway, because you're not arguing the right way.
For more information regarding these rules, make sure to check out our Terms of Use.
As always, we have the flagging feature (the report this page link at the bottom of each post and comment), should you think that anything is in violation of the above rules.
I'd also like to point out that we do have a separate creative writing site (writing.progressiveu.org). Any poems and/or short stories posted as blogs on this main site will be moved to the creative writing site immediately. All comments will be lost when this is done, so just don't do it.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment on this post, or shoot us an e-mail, or any of our moderators a PM, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. We hope you enjoy this next contest!

Think Progress!
|
We want you to tell us what 'progress' means to you. What does it mean, how do you achieve it, what other thoughts do you have on it? Write a blog on it (submitted to Progressiveu.org) to let us know.
Of course, there are a few rules:
*The entry must be 200 words, as with all other blogs.
* The entry MUST be tagged with 'Think Progress'. Any blog not tagged with this will not be considered.
* The entry must otherwise meet the rules of the site. That means no slander and all that.
* You must allow Progressive U to use some or all of your blog in the event you win the challenge. We will use the winning blogs as promotional pieces for the scholarship contest and site as a whole. You will maintain authorship.
* Only one entry per user will be accepted. While you are free to submit multiple entries (though, why would you?), only one will be considered for the challenge.
* Entry must be submitted to the site by April 15, 2008, 10 pm PDT. Entries received after this time will not be considered for the challenge.
ALL entries, provided they meet the requirements above, will be given 50 points. This is in addition to the 50 points you get for the blog, plus the read points you'll earn for it.
As an added incentive, if we choose your blog as a winner, we will give you an additional 1000 points towards the scholarship contest. But in order to win, you must have an extremely well written idea. We will choose up to 10 blogs to win.

Bonus Point Opp!
|
We've introduced another bonus point opportunity for you all. The announcement won't go up on the main site until tomorrow, so you get a brief sneak peak.
On our creative writing site (writing.progressiveu.org), we've launched a writing contest. The task? Write a story or poem containing only 50 (different) words. Meaning that you can write a 300 word story, but it can only have 50 different words in it.
You have until March 22nd to submit your entry to the site, and those who complete the task will get 100 points towards the contest. So, if you enjoy writing, give it a shot.
Remember, if you signed up for an account on the main site, you can use your same username and password on the creative writing site to log in. No need to create a new account.
