Laos
So my last few days of Vietnam, i was in Hoi An, where every shop is a tailor shop. Basically you bring in a picture of what you want made and they take measurements...and BAM next day there ya go....its exactly what ya asked for! its amazing that they can do that..like what a talent!

So left Vietnam, and made our way to Laos, to the capital, Vientainne. had to get a 24 hour bus...which i was dreading...but despite the landslide and the toilet stop on the side of the road it was surprisingly alright given the circumstances.

Arrived in Vientainne, and i was great, was really French influenced, which was great because i love pastries and Frenchy things :) ! When we arrived we went to a Buddah park which was interesting to see, it was a combination of Hindu and Buddah. so peaceful there too, everything was so silent, considering we were right next to a main road!

And also during my week i always get asked about that leadership board, and the weekly video poll, now i confess i am a competitive person, which is a good thing, just as long as its not a crazy type of competitiveness ya know?!:L so yeah i have great friends and they vote for me, so thats wicked, and i do want to win the competitions as its great to be the popular Irish girl, doing her country proud and what not!...any who..yeah im happy that im doing well and i hope it stays that way...and what can i say i have great friends!!:L cheers you guys!love from Laos!

South Vietnam and the Cu Chi Tunnels
Incase theres people that don't know alot about the Cu Chi tunnels and the Vietnam war, here's a very brief run down.

The Cu Chi Tunnels began in the late 1940's, and took over 25 years to make, their purpose in the beginning was to hide from the French. They are over 200 kilometres in length, and go up to 10 metres underground, and with up to 3 storys. The cool thing is that these just aren't random tunnels, where you have to crouch down to get to the other side, the Vietnamese lived down there for periods of time. The tunnels were equipped with bedrooms, kitchens, wells and even hospitals, unfortunately the Americans stole alot of there supplies for maintaining the tunnels and stuff that was essential for their living in the tunnels. Wells were made because the Americans had poisoned the river so they couldn't tunnels through to the river to get water, they tunneled down metres and metres instead.

Once the Americans invaded, the main use of the tunnels was refuge, for the Vietnamese, they set up trap doors, so when they fought back against the Americans they would quickly disappear, and then would tunnel to a village near by, where the Americans would be clueless if they were Vietnamese locals or soldiers. This was good until the Americans killed the locals.

To put it into perspective, in the Vietnam war 58,000 American soldiers were killed and hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese were killed. Also the Vietnamese are still living with the destruction of what the Americans did, and still effected by the chemical bombs the Americans used back then.

When i was staying in Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) in Vietnam, i booked onto a tour of the Cu Chi tunnels, i thought it would be interesting to see them and learn more about the Vietnam war, because then i knew very little.

When i arrived there, we were given a short movie about the Vietnam war. This was upsetting to watch, as it was very detailed. We walked around the area where some of the war had taken place, you could see where American bomb had just blown away at the earth, metres down into the ground. We also saw different "boobie traps" that the Vietnamese had left for the Americans, this was alot to take in and they were terrible and almost never a quick death either.

Then before we went to the tunnels people were shooting guns, i wasn't fully convinced about shooting a gun, never thought id need to or like to...just never thought about it really. As we got closer to the shooting range, the shots were almost deafening. Once we got there i was like..emm no i don't think I'm going to, but then somehow i got persuaded. bought some shells for an AK 47 and proceeded to walk down to where the guns were.
I was so freaked out when i got down there, i watched people shot the guns and the gun shot back onto their shoulders, which looked painful, so i said hell no I'm not doing it now! Tams then got up, not a bother and shot it 5times and then there were 5shots left for me, and somehow i got up and just shot them. i might add i dint enjoy it at all, I'm not a fan of using something that is potentially a weapon for murdering people, and somehow I'm the freaking out of it all i hit it 3 out of 5 times, and walked away terrified and deaf, and also knowing id never shoot a gun again. unless its a BB gun or water gun :)

After that then we walked to where you get into the Cu Chi Tunnels. everyone lined up and started to descend down into the steps which led into the tunnels. i was last, and i walked down the steps which leads to a little room where theres another lot of steps, at this point i just had all these thoughts of what it would be like back then and how many people died there, and that this was more of a tomb now than anything else, but i crouched down to the lower level and took one step inside the tunnels and then i just had this over whelming feeling of fear. i stepped back and said to Tamsin who was a little further in, "i cant do this, I'm just far too afraid and

Kuala Lumpur!
Right so after Sumatra, i went to Kuala Lumpur...for some reason i had this image of oranges for Kuala Lumpur..have no idea where it came from. but yeah terribly random altogether.

When i first arrived i check out this wet market, which my book had a pretty good write up about...when i came close to the market, i started to get this funky smell...hard to describe like over ripe fruit. I walked further into the market, where people were selling everything, from live catfish to chickens theyd kill infront of you to fresh fruit and veg (some of which i had never heard of), as i got deeper into the midst of stalls and people, the smell was so bad, it was now full on dead meat to live meat, over ripe fruit to sewers and then...when i saw a light at the far end, we were basically ambushed by a bunch of minging cats, some of which didnt have tails - they smelt terrible honestly i was going to throw up, but finally managed to deal with it by smelling my perfume on my top, and walking fast!

So after the market, that i swore id never return to, i hoped on a monorail into town. this was terribly exciting for me as im still a child in ways, and the only place ive ever seen a monorail was in the simpsons!

When i got into the city, i wanted to go to the Petronas Towers, which are the tallest building in the world. They were so impressive and actually very handsome for a huge amount of metal....inside was even better...there was teh biggest mall ive ever been to, full of designer shops...it was great. I spend one full day just on the first floor, and theyre like 7floors...so yeah just to put it into perspective for you. and everything was so shiny..inside and out.
It was so odd to go from the market to this within an hour...it was like wow!this city has everything really!

I stayed in a really great hostel called Green Hut, and thats where i watched Amys video, i was sad after watching it, as its sad to see a friend down like that, especially when you can see them face to face and give them a huge hug. Amy is now feeling a whole lot better and smiling again like usual!

After my great time in Kuala Lumpur...its Vietnam for me!
