"Sono ciclisto campeoni di Aberdeen e distretto."

ciao I'm Marco. Welcome to my pages.

I race for Deeside Thistle Cycling Team.

Je suis l'eclave de la route.

Sono schiavo di corsa.

I'm racing these this year:

August: Deeside Evening League. a 2 week leg-breaker training camp.

September: Cairngorm Stage Race, Ythan APR, ADCA Hill climb championships.

October: Scottish Hill Climb championships

November, December & January: get pissed, womanise and get fat, well sort of.

If i wave to you as you pass me out on the road, im saying thanks for giving me room - or not giving me enough room - depending on the wave.

Holidays day 2.
Went out with the Aussie MACHINE that is Tom Barratt. He's sitting 3rd in the Deeside Evening League and is a dap hand at the triathloning stuff. We started off from Garlogie and went towards Banchory before going to Crathes then to Knockburn Loch then Strachan then to the summit of Cairn O'Mount via Bridge of Dye. He well and trully skinned me. Ok I was on a slightly heavier bike but I was still well below his par. I had to raise my game on the climbs to the point where it wouldn't be a clever idea to do so for a long distance ride. We originally planned for the daring swoop down to the Clatterin' Brig before a sharp left to Auchinblae then onto Stonehaven then up the Slug (or rather if on a bike the Slog). Fortunately for me Tom was low on juice (the liquid term) and with visability at 15 meters at the top we decided it would be a good idea to retrace our route back to Garlogie. With a tailwind it was OK but given that 76 miles were already in the legsd from yesterday, by the time we were at Hirn, I was well and trully handed my own arse. I popped completely after Flora's and had to take an energy bar despite just 2-3 miles left. OK my average was 'just' 15.5mph but for the parcours/geography if you like, that is non-too surprising.
Its the last Deeside Evening League of the season this coming tuesday so its rest up Monday, maybe do some housework and race my skin off in the 5 on tuesday night. Garlogie is the place to be at 7pm.

DTCC 75 mile RR
Its a road race and it was 75 miles. I finished.... where I finished? well that doesn't matter. I finished. The last two laps of them start quite close to the finish so the temptation to pack it in after xa and xb miles was enough for some. I thought, well, we've come this far, so whats the point in not finishing. The professionals have to do DOUBLE the distance, nearly every race they do. Sat in with the bunch until Boglouster near Tillyfourie where I went off the front to gain some 'sliding room' - this worked - until another doomed attack went screaming past me and the peloton fronted by Ray Wilson (Sandy Wallace Cycles) was chasing him/them down, this meant that the pace of the bunch turned frantic from casual in a few seconds. In the space of 100meters I was off the front to at the back of the bunch. The weather had influence on my ride today, it got better, hotter and dryer and I parched in my armwarmers, overshoes and short zip jersey - also had my clear lenses in - where sunny iridiums were order of the day.
More frantic attacks led to a change in pace and a few of those bigger riders off the back, I'm not big but still found the going tough, I know the parcours of the route so I knew where if to make an effort or not. This was fine untill the hill up towards the Crossroads hotel, another attack this time from John Kermode (Dundee Thistle) got the bunch into the red zone. I paced myself keeping myself 30-40 meters behind the bunch, with the climb about to bite I knew if I kept a pace I would get back on, I did, only when I got back on another attack went and I was scrambling for wheels, this time there weren't any. I was off the back for good.
Had a spell with a four man group which included Al McGill, Ross Calder and Ken Thompson (Dunfermline CC) we passed a number of guys who had packed up the road but I eventually got dropped by them and I had McGill for coumpany, we were both fucked though. He did 95% of the work as I couldn't contribute anything. In the last 1.5 kms he sped off to finish about 1 minute ahead of me. But by this time I wanted off my bike and I wanted the pain to end. I did 75 miles in 3hrs 53.11.

A disc doesn't feel any different to normal, never really felt it with the wind either, tri bars and high winds are much worse! I would go for the disc and a deep rim on the front, though deep rims and high winds seem to be harder to control. I've a corima deep rim on the front can def feel that sometimes when its a hefty cross wind. If you're only doin hilly TT's then a set of deep rims would prob be better and possibly cheaper!

Good luck tomorrow, i'm riding a 25 in stirling, getting quite busy at the mo with uni work so couldn't come to the race up your way, pity cos my legs are beginning to feel quite good! Then its the Scottish TTT next sat and a RR in Newcastle on the sunday. How about you? races coming up?

7th in Scotland and 1st in the North for 50 miles, 4th in Scotland and 1st in the North for 100 miles ... and next year I start training!

The time for the 100 was alright but I'm more impressed with my split times: only myself and one other rider lost less than a minute on the second lap ... even the fastest rider was over 2 mintes slower on the second lap. I may not be the fastest but there's a lot to be said for being consistent.
